Latest News & Comments

Prestige booklet no. 1 from Norway, nice, but far too expensive.

Beautiful stamps, horrible selling price. Great Britain, USA, Denmark, Iceland and Greenland (countries that Norway likes to be compared to) have issued various prestge booklets for quite a few years. The prestige booklets from these countries are sold at stamps face value or a litte more! They are collector's items, and are seldom seen as postage on covers, which again means easy money to the Post.

This easy money however, was not enough for the Norwegian Post, stamps with a normal selling price NOK 45 are sold for NOK 99, 120% above face! And, if that isn't enough, the booklet stamps are different from those issued in sheets, which means that all Norway collectors need them for their Norway collections. And in order to make them really attractive, the number of booklets printed is only 12.500 (but to that price I am not sure if they will be sold out).

If this policy keeps on, say with one or two prestige booklets a year, I am afraid that even more Norwegian and foreign collectors will stop collecting modern Norwegian stamps.
