 1. Introduction

 

On December 2nd 1978 Norway introduced labels in sale from vending machines (ATMs). From the 1999 issue, the Philatelic Bureau (PFT) wanted an easier life concerning philatelic orders. The employes spent too much time getting the labels from the vending machines. PFT ordered the printer of the 11.06.1999 issue to deliver them labels with preprinted sales values. The coil was cut by the printer and delivered PFT as singles only. Per definition these are not vending machine labels, but stamps. These are numbered in the “Norgeskatalogen” with the prefix PFE and they exist as singles only. The differences between the PFEs and the ATMs are shown here:

 2. Differences between ATM Franking Labels and PFE Stamps
ATM 4: Wide space between "K" and "r"                                 PFE 1 - 10: Narrow space between "K" and "r"
The shapes and sizes of the value figures are different. The ATMs are placed at bottom of the back-paper while the PFEs are placed in the middle
ATM 5: Height of value figures is 3,1 mm.  Position of value differs from label to label. even for labels with same value. PFE 11-18: Height of value figures is 3,5 mm. The same position of value for all stamps of same value. Value with darker colour.
ATM 6: On yellowish backpaper. Position of value differs from label to label. even for labels with same value. PFE 19-24: On white backpaper. The same position of value for all stamps of same value. Value with darker colour.
ATM 10: On yellowish backpaper. Position of value differs from label to label. even for labels with same value. PFE 25-30: On white, thick backpaper. Same position of value for all stamps of same value. Value with darker colour.

 
 3. The ATM Franking Labels
 ATM 01 - 02.12.1978 Frama Labels 0005 - 9500 øre

These labels were sold at 5 Post Offices. The selling price and the motive was printed by the vending machine. Each vending machine printed its own number at the labels. The labels could be bought from 5 øre to 9500 øre with intervals of 5 øre. The labels exist with different ink colouring. See the “Norgeskatalogen” for specialized listing.

 ATM 02 - 02.12.1980 Frama Labels 0005 - 9500 øre

These labels were sold at more than 30 Post Offices, labels from all machines were identical. The labels could be bought from 5 øre to 9500 øre with intervals of 5 øre. The label exists with different ink colouring. See the “Norgeskatalogen” for specialized listing.

 ATM 03 - 16.12.1986 Frama Labels 0010 - 9500 øre

These labels were sold at more than 30 Post Offices, labels from all machines were identical. The labels could be bought from 10 øre to 9500 øre with intervals of 10 øre. The label exists with different ink colouring. See the “Norgeskatalogen” for specialized listing.

 ATM 04 - 11.06. 1999 Genimate Labels 3,60 - 200,00 kr

These labels were sold at 4 Post Offices in Oslo, labels from all machines were identical. The labels could be bought from 3,60 kr to 200,00 kr with intervals of 10 øre.  The label’s motive is from now on preprinted.

 
   

 
 ATM 05 - 18.03. 2002 Newvision Labels 5,00 - 260,00 kr

These labels were sold at 51 Post Offices, labels from all machines were identical (position of value differs from label to label though). Standard postage rates in range 5,00 kr - 260,00 kr only. The height of the value numbers is 3,1 mm.

 ATM 06 - 01.04. 2006 Newvision Labels

These labels are sold at 51 Post Offices. Labels from all machines are identical (position of value differs from label to label though) and they are attached to yellowish paper. From 5,50 kr

2nd printing - white polar bear

2nd printing - no text on light yellow backpaper

 
ATM 07 - 09 23.11. 2007 (Trial labels)

These labels are sold at 4 Post Offices, Lillestrom, Tonsberg, Vinterbro and Stovner (max. strips of 5) + Postens frimerketjeneste (max strips of 10).

 

 

Labels from all machines are individually numbered, but identical. It is possible to verify which machine every single label comes from.

 

 

The 3 different designs are: Lycaena virgaureae, Polyommatus icarus and Papilio machaon.

 
ATM 10 - 23.10.2008 (New design and logo)
The backpaper of ATM 10 is thinner and yellowish compared to the backpaper of PFE 25 - 30. The position of the value varies on ATM 10 (ink-sprayed in vending machines), on PFE 25 - 30 however, the position always is the same (printed by printer)
 
   

 
ATM 11 - 13 (New logo) - 23.10.2008

These labels are sold at 4 Post Offices, Lillestrom, Tonsberg, Vinterbro and Stovner (max. strips of 5) + Postens frimerketjeneste (max strips of 10).

 

 

Labels from all machines are individually numbered, but identical. It is possible to verify which machine every single label comes from.
